The Probate Division of the Court appoints conservators for individuals who, due to their advancing age, serious physical disorders or mental disabilities, need assistance in making decisions about their daily lives and medical care. Courts contract with experienced and qualified private investigators to ensure that the conservatee's living condition, level of care and financial management are commensurate with the conservatee's abilities and resources and that the conservator is supporting the best interests of the conservatee. While most conservators carry out their duties judiciously, there are some who do not live up to the court's expectations. The main purpose of the Probate Investigator is to monitor the conservator in order to ensure quality care and reduce the potential for the abuse of elderly and disabled.
